Useful Tips: Protecting Pictures in your blog

I found a very useful tip from an online parenting blog. Click here to gain access to the blog. It is about protecting the pictures in your blog. As I found it very useful for me, i thought I should share it here too.

However, while trying them out by following the instruction listed in the blog, I realised that some of the directions had changed.

This is what I found out :

To disable right click function, follow Step 1 as listed in the blog.

To disable left click function, follow Step 2 as listed in the blog.

To disable the Image Toolbar, follow Step 3 as listed in the blog.
After copying the script from the link in the blog. Click on Add a Gadget -> HTML/Javascript from the Blogger Design page. Paste and save.

My advise is to always do a preview of your blog before saving the changes.

Have fun!

Last Lesson at Shichida, HY's Recent Developments and a little on baby #2

Goodbye for now~ Shichida Classes

On Sunday was HY's last lesson at Shichida. We decided to withdraw him from the classes as we could not afford the time to bring him for classes anymore as the due date for baby #2 draws nearer. He had also refused to take part in the hands-on acitivites during classes recently and only prefer to listen to songs and flashcards. HY had missed his classes for 2 weeks before as the whole family was down with throat infection, cough and flu. In fact, I'm still nursing my flu and cough after catching the virus from him and hubby. Seems like my immune system is really down in the pits. But I feel that I'm almost fully recovered and my energy is returning.

HY's Recent Developments

Today i suddenly realised that i had missed out alot on HY's developments when i was browsing other parenting blogs and one of my friend's blog. The only reason that I could think of  was that I had been feeling under the weather and not my usual self due to this 2nd pregnancy. Somehow i feel that this 2nd pregnancy is tougher and taking its toil on me. As compared to my first pregnancy, I could no longer have alot of rest with a young toddler in the house and I have to see to his needs first. We had taken very few pictures of him too and there is zero updates of him in his old blog. Honestly, I really do feel very lousy about it. I also failed to note some of HY's speech developments.  It only dawn upon me when i was bringing him for his last Shichida lesson last sunday, that 2 weeks ago he was unable to mutter alot of words that he could speak now. His vocabulary had been increasing rapidly by weeks and Im very pleased that he can recognise things, objects, food or animals by pointing to them.  He also love imitating sounds made by animals too like cats, dogs, lion. He could point to pictures of lion, zebra, elephant when i question him. He would sometimes say "no, no, no" and shake his head at the same time when i ask if he wants milk or if he is hungry or he would raise his right hand when you ask if he wants something. He would whirl around in circles and do his own kind of dance when he hears music. Just yesterday he pointed his cute little finger at me when his daddy question him " Where is mummy?" He would also greet me sweetly without anybody's prompting when I return home from work. When i left him with his daddy to do some chores around the house, he would search for me and call out to me in his soft little voice and make sure i acknowledge him before he will hang around or play nearby with his toys.  When this happens, I would think to myself, motherhood is such, everything is worth it and the tiredness would melt away. I tell myself I've to hang on and treasure each moments with him and strive to be a good mother to him and his little brother.

Here's some pictures of HY taken at the play area of a friend's daughter party which we attended last Saturday.

A Little note on baby #2

Received an email notification from babycenter informing me that I've reach 31 weeks of pregnancy today. This week baby #2 can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs and body are beginning to plump out as he accumulates fats under his skin. He is probably moving alot and that I may have problem sleeping because of his kicks and somersaults.
Indeed, I had been feeling the impact of his kicks and knocks since late afternoon today. At one time, I think i felt his fingers along my inner belly too. Somehow I have the feeling that baby #2 is even more active than HY even though I did not snack excessively on sweets but I do indulge in the occasional chocolates.

I have started packing my hospital bag too. It is not done yet but I am slowly adding on the stuffs I need. Hubby has also fixed up the baby cot given by one of my colleagues and we had also bought most of the baby items that we require last sunday.
I think we are almost there and definitely more prepared this time round. :)

LeapFrog Learning DVD Set and Home Activities

Recently I bought the Leapfrog Learning Dvd set from SMH BP at a very affordable price. I had first heard about these educational dvds when i attended the workshop organised by Playschool.net in August on Homelearning made easy. Pauline from Playschool.net talks about inroducing phonics to children and the benefit of how it will help them in their pronunciation and reading in future.
Thereafter, i went to read up some of the reviews in amazon.com and was convinced that this is the type of educational learning product that is worthwhile to splurge on for HY and baby #2.

The set comes with 3 Leapfrog DVDs : Letter Factory,Talking Words Factory and Let's go to School as well as 26 Flash cards.
Currently, I am only showing the first DVD in this series which is the Letter Factory. And in this series, HY is being exposed to visual as well as the phonics pronounciation of each letter of the alphabets. Even Daddy is attracted to the show. Usually i will try and watch it with HY so that I could learn the pronounciation too. But if I need to do some cooking or housework, I will take it as a chance to do whatever i need as he is fully engrossed in the show for the full 35 mins. I am generally pleased with my purchase as i could see that HY enjoys the show very much.

Home Activities

I have started HY occasionally on some home activities after he had passed his 1 yr old birthday. I am trying my best as i am now in my 3rd trimester and very often I do feel very exhausted from working full time and handling some household chores.

I am not an expert on home schooling as i am still learning alot from other mums and constantly reading other mom's blog to get ideas on what to teach my own child. I have to frequently remind myself not to be overly ambitious when it comes to teaching HY as i want him to benefit from these activities by learning something from them and at the same time be able to bond with him.

Most of the mummies had suggested to spend not more than 15 mins on home activities but i will usually stop only when HY lose interest or become distracted or i needed rest.

1) Flashcards - I am trying to do more of these flashcards for him based on topics like things around the house, colours, shapes, alphabets etc.

2) Media - I found some interesting nursery rhymes, children's songs, Dr seus on the Youtube, phonics teaching at online websites such as http://www.starfall.com/, Children's application on the iphone like flashcards, memory games, songs, e-books.

3) Educational Dvds -  Leapfrog learning dvds, Hi-5 series, Sesame street, baby tv series.

4) Motor Skills development - Use of the spoon to scoop objects, stacking of objects, Matching of objects etc

5) Games /  Hands-on Activities - Exposed him to lowercase alphabets and uppercase alphabets, recognising numbers.

6) Outdoor fun/play - We had visited the Zoo and fidgets, the indoor playground. We plan to bring him to the beach for sand play, water play, botanical garden, science centre, bird park etc after we are more settled with baby#2.

Whenever i have the time or when im not feeling so tired, i will engage HY in a mix of activities. He could be watching an educational show and then i will let him have some hands-on activities after that.

Hubby getting all excited about #2

Today on the way to work, hubby was telling me that while he was at work yesterday he was feeling all excited and flustered about #2 impending arrival. I could see that he can barely contain his excitement. When i called him yesterday, he thought i was going to tell him that im about to pop and wanted him to rush back.
He was also telling me that his friend whose wife's due date is on 11 Nov 2010 is also feeling excited. I don't remember my hubby feeling this way with our #1. Maybe at that time we really didn't know what to expect.
Ignorance is bliss?

2nd photoshoot for HY - 26 August 2010

It had been approximately 10months since Hong Yi's first photoshoot at 8 months old. Even though i am about 27 weeks pregnant with #2 when we went for this photoshoot, i reckon i will not look that bad so i persuaded hubby to agree to an affordable photoshoot package with C & T studio which operated out of a condomium at Ang Mo Kio. Their 'studio' set up is simplier as compared to our first photoshoot but they have more photography props.

We took the chance to arrange this photoshoot on a weekday as the nanny had to attend her daughter's graduation ceremony. Before going for the shoot, we had already decided that the focus should be on Hong Yi as we can hardly capture nice photographs of him nowadays as he was always moving or trying to snatch our camera whenever we take it out.

Overall the shoot went well but active Hong Yi kept moving away from the backdrop to explore the rest of the studio. Both my hubby and I had to take turns to carry him back. No wonder his grandma would say he is an energiser bunny. :)

The only shot from the family series that didn't show the chubbiness of my face but i  was looking elsewhere.
And I 'recycled' the family T-shirts from our first photoshoot.

A rare photo of Hong Yi sitting down

Standing up to run away from the backdrop

I always liked the angel wings on kids, i think it made them looked even more adorable

Another photo from the angel series, We had to use toys to distract him.
                                          Changed into the second outfit

My colleague told me that my boy showed a lot of potential posing. :)
Nice huge bear and a smaller bear which fails to distract him
The photographer even tried to get him to sit still by bringing out a kiddie chair
                                        And out came the bubbles...

Children really do love bubbles, don't they?
                                               changed to last outfit
and set him against different props

The photoshoot ended in 1 hour. In total, we are given 116 high resolution photos all with different expressions and poses of our dear son. Even though some of the photos are not perfectly captured, i still considered this money well spent. Hubby commented that he prefers the family series.

Why i decided to migrate from Multiply to Blogger

This is my official first posting in blogger to start the 'ball' rolling. I didn't start Hong Yi's first blog in blogger because i had tried using blogger as far back as in 2005 (?) and it gave me a lot of problems like uploading of photos etc. Maybe my computer then was a very lousy one or that i am not as computer savy as i am now (?) :P
But even so, i did really started to blog abit using blogger and I still have my personal blog that was since kept as private and another blog which was our wedding blog that i had used to record the wedding preparations.

Frankly speaking, i am also not someone who is very good with words and usually there will be nothing much for me to write anyway as hubby is usually busy with work now as he is running his own business and i could barely go out of the house alone with Hong Yi so i thought then that multiply would serve its purpose well for me. I made it more like a photo blog where i posted lots of Hong Yi's photographs online and still be able to have the option of occasionally typing a few words in his baby blog.

But since baby #2 will be arriving soon, i assume i will have more activities in our life with his arrival, Hong yi going to school later on, our new family maid coming to help and etc, i think i should 'upgrade' to a blog where i don't have to post so many photos and also give me the chance to type more words and serve its purpose better as a 'diary' for our family.

Blogging takes time and i am not sure whether i will have the chance to post alot but i will try.
